hi everybody this is mrs. tenorio here and this is my little presentation on the IV ATL's and this video I'm going to be explaining the five different ATL skills and how they relate to the weaker strategies of avid first of the five ATL skills as communication which is the exchange of thoughts messages and information effectively through interaction in the lines with a W in Wicker which stands for fighting in bed we do different types of writing most recently my students to Cornell notes on a TED Talk by Dr dweck on the growth mindset they do short writing prompts as well as longer pieces of writing such as a persuasive essay or a career report the s a t c h research which is about formulating questions observing planning collecting and recording data research aligns with the eye in Wicker which stands for inquiry embedded within the average Rick Elam is the IB design cycle students go through a four-step process involving inquiry about a topic of there the third is social skills which has to do with accepting responsibility of decision-making and adapting to a variety of roles social skills alliance with a c and wicker for operation today participate in tutorial sessions they come prepared with questions they are struggling with from their content core classes students collaborate in groups to solve these challenges and then reflect on their learning process self-management is the fourth ATL and that has to do gross and fine motor skills spatial awareness as well as organization and time management self-management aligns with the O in Wicker which stands for organization as part of avid students learn to become more organized they have weekly agenda check and by monthly binder checks to help with time management while on distance learning for example students develop their own personal daily schedule to keep themselves on track Stacy I was thinking this is the acquisition of knowledge comprehension application and an owl thinking aligns with the r in Wicker which stands for reading students in Avid read to improve their comprehension for example they had to read articles on the effects of the pandemic on the farmers and what social distancing my look like in school when we return after Avid students have worked hard incorporating the five ATL's and the winter strategies and various activities lessons and assignments a field trip to a college or university over the years students have been to UCLA Cal State LA and Pepperdine diversity
